Righteous Anger: A Force for Good or a Doorway to Sin?

"Righteous Anger: A Force for Good or a Doorway to Sin?"
Beloved in Christ,
Anger is a powerful emotion that can either be a force for good or a doorway to sin. The Bible acknowledges that there is a place for righteous anger, but it also warns us to be cautious in how we handle it. The Apostle Paul, quoting from Psalm 4, provides valuable guidance on this matter.
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:26-27 (KJV)
"Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil."
Paul acknowledges that anger in itself is not sinful; it's how we manage it that determines its moral quality. Righteous anger is directed at injustice, sin, or actions that dishonor God. However, even righteous anger can turn into sin if it leads to bitterness, unforgiveness, or harmful actions. That's why Paul advises us not to let the sun go down on our wrath, as lingering anger can give the devil a foothold in our lives.
Jesus Himself displayed righteous anger when He cleansed the temple (John 2:13-17), but His anger was focused on correcting a wrong and honoring God's house. It did not lead to sin.
As you go about your day, consider the things that stir up anger within you. Are they aligned with God's righteousness, or are they rooted in personal grievances? And most importantly, are you managing your anger in a way that honors God?
In the grace of our Lord,
